Every year, about half of my weddings and events are outdoors. Even with the unpredictable British weather, many couples still dream of tying the knot surrounded by the natural beauty of our gorgeous countryside. And it’s easy to understand why … from manor house courtyards to magical woodland hideaways, hilltop view points to English country gardens, Oxfordshire has so many beautiful outdoor wedding venues to offer.
Here’s my top pick for 2025. Let the dreaming begin …
Ashmolean Museum roof terrace
Not many people know that they can get married at the glorious Ashmolean museum in Oxford and even fewer people know that they can get married on the roof terrace, surrounded by the dreaming spires of the city. Look out for open events throughout the year or contact the fabulous team for a show round.
Caswell House, Brize Norton
There’s no other word for this place other than dreamy. The walled garden is planted with lavender and roses and after a ceremony framed by the stone archway, the barns await for dinner and dancing. It’s got its own special kind of magic – see for yourself with a visit to meet the team.
Evenley Wood Gardens, Evenley
Oh okay, I know it’s not in Oxfordshire, but I love it so much that I thought I’d sneak it onto the list for anyone that’s looking for a venue just over the border in Northamptonshire. The team have worked so hard to develop their wedding offer and the new tipi and ceremony space is going to look glorious this summer. Contact Alison the events coordinator or Dani from Acorn and Oak
Hadsham Farm, Horley
One of my favourite outdoor venues and right on my doorstep. Family owned and operated, this place is an absolute gem. Every time I drive down the tree lined track and catch my first glimpse of the lake, the bell tents, the flags flying and the main tipi, I get a surge of excitement. Charlie and his team deliver every time.
Heath Farm, Swerford
A place like no other. If you’re looking for a venue that combines cottage accommodation, lawns for drinks and woodlands for magical festival vibes, then this is the spot for you. The central courtyard makes the most spectacular ceremony space, with views across the lake and the valley beyond. Nothing is impossible for Mon and his wonderful family team.
Rousham House, Rousham
Only a few weddings take place here every year, but boy are they spectacular. The lawns in front of Rousham House are the perfect spot for marquees, and the walled gardens, dovecoat and pools are stunning locations for photographs. Viewing for the lucky few is by appointment only.
Stratton Court Barn, Stratton Ardley
Stratton Court never stands still and there’s always something new to discover here in this idyllic venue set amongst the rolling fields of Oxfordshire. In the last couple of years they’ve developed a stunning woodland ceremony space. Take a walk in the wedding woods this weekend with a visit to Stratton Court.
Tythe Barn, Launton
Now this place is special! It’s been in the Deeley family for over 500 years and sits at the centre of a working farm. The barns and farmhouse have been lovingly restored and the gardens offer a stunning ceremony space bursting with blooms. The atmosphere is an artful combination of chic styling, warmth and welcome. Emma and her team are ready to work their magic for you, so step inside their world …
Wed Shed, Thorpe Mandeville
Calling all you festival lovers – this place is bursting with personality and potential. Super stylish accommodation sits next to an amazing party space with views over the rolling fields. There’s acres of outdoor space for your ceremony and enough gorgeous glamping options to host a whole bus load of guests. Get amongst it at Glamping Thorpe.
Wittenham Clumps, Little Wittenham
This one’s for the elopers, the micro wedding fans and the day dreamers. With views for miles, this is the ultimate outdoor wedding venue with nothing but the sky above and the meadow beneath. I’ll be here this summer conducting a simple, but utterly beautiful hand tying ceremony and I just can’t wait. Permission needs to be granted by the Earth Trust, custodians of this ancient site, who also have a gorgeous barn venue nearby for the after party!
